Brilliant Easter family fun at Norfolk Museums

From crime scene investigation to bugs and beasties – don’t miss out on the fun at the Norfolk Museums this Easter.

Norwich CastleGreat Yarmouth Time & Tide, Gressenhall Museum, Cromer Museum and King’s Lynn Museum will all be offering activities for families.

THings to do this Easter

Norwich Castle

Join the team at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery for Castle CSI - a packed crime-themed programme of costumed-characters, object-handling, trails, tours and more.

Activities run 29 March – 13 April, Monday – Saturday, 10.30am to 3.30pm.

Hot-foot it to the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell for the Show us the Shoe! self-led trail, plus a lovely keyring craft activity.

29 March – 14 April, Museum open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am to 4.30pm.

Explore the beautiful rooms of Strangers’ Hall, a hidden gem in the centre of Norwich and Meet Bart the Bunny & His Furry Friends – find the bunnies and their hidden carrots and celebrate your success with bunny bunting.

Wednesday 4 and 11 April: 10am to 4pm, Sunday 1, 8 and 15 April: 1– 4.30pm.

Gressenhall

Zoom in on the miniature world of bugs and beasties at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, lift up logs and search under stones for the creatures that call Gressenhall’s gardens their home. On Easter Monday don’t miss Gressenhall Goes Wild, a day dedicated to messy fun and natural crafts. Explore fifty acres of unspoilt Norfolk countryside, including a traditional working farm and discover the evocative ‘Voices from the Workhouse’ displays.

Bugs and Beasties runs 29 March – 15 April: 10am to 5pm, Gressenhall goes Wild takes place on 2 April: 10am to 5pm.

Lynn Museum

It’s a holiday of two halves at Lynn Museum, in week one you can enjoy the If the shoe fits trail every day with a special Shoes! Family Event Day on 5 April. Week two has a distinctly medieval flavour with the daily Medieval treasures trail and the Medieval Living: Family Event Day on 12 April.

Trails run daily Tuesday - Saturday: 10am to 5pm and Sunday: 12- 4pm.
Family Event Day activities run 1-5pm.

Head to Thetford’s Ancient House Museum and explore the building with a self-led trail, Easter Fun Hunt from 29 March – 7 April or Mrs Newton's Cleaning Cupboard from 10 April – 14 April. Keen to blow away the winter cobwebs? Don’t miss Discovery Day: Victorian Spring Cleaning from 10am to 1pm on 10 April where you can find out how the Victorians kept their houses clean, get hands-on with museum objects, and craft a souvenir to take home.

Cromer Museum

Meet the friendly fisherman at Cromer Museum in Fair Fisher Folk on 3 April, enjoy a day of crafting inspired by the incredible work of Olive Edis in Crafty Cromer: Olive & Friends on 5 April, and learn about the work involved in keeping a Victorian household spick and span in Spring Cleaning: Washing up! on 10 April. For all of the budding palaeontologists out there be sure to head along to Fossil Finders on 12 April.

All of Cromer’s Easter events run from 10am to 3.30pm.

Enjoy English eccentricity at its best with the Only in England: An Egg-cellent Easter Fair at Time and Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth – take part in the Easter games, decorate an egg and create your own Easter bonnet to take home. 4 and 11 April: 11am to 4pm.

Head to Great Yarmouth’s South Quay and discover Elizabethan House Museum. Make accessories fit for royalty in Ruffs, Cuffs & Crowns on 2 April: 11.00 – 16.00, or discover a household in the midst of the First World War in Reacquisition: A House in War Time on 9 April: 11am to 4pm

Visit Great Yarmouth’s Tolhouse Museum and explore an 800 year history of criminal containment. See if your engineering skills can help to capture the castle in Catapults & Castles on April 3: 11am to 4pm. Beware on 10 April as pirates are taking over the museum! Head along from 11am to 4pm for Plundering Pirates and see if you can beat the salty seadogs at their own game.
