Description

Buckenham Marshes is a magnet for winter migrants, with numerous different species overwintering here. Join our expert volunteer guide, Drew Lyness, to learn about the site and to search for the season’s best birds and wildlife this fantastic reserve has to offer.

Expect to see scarce and stripey white-fronted geese, whistling wigeon and the powerful peregrine falcon! We’ll be looking for whirling flocks of golden plover and lapwing in their hundreds, plus ruff, snipe and other waders and wildfowl that drop into this area in the colder months. We’ll expect to spot the bizarre Chinese water deer out on the marshes, while there is a chance of glimpsing an elusive otter here too.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the mosaic of marshland, grazing meadow and river valley habitats make the reserve a haven for wildlife of all kinds. Put on that warm coat, tie up those walking boots and spend the morning immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of RSPB Buckenham Marshes in winter.
