Singing with Nightingales Live

Singing with Nightingales Live

Singing With Nightingales Live invites audiences to experience a unique collaboration between musician and bird, through a starlit walk into the woods to hear one of the UK’s rarest birds, the nightingale, sing its courtship song. Via a live stream from Knepp Castle, you'll be guided into the birds' habitat by an ornithologist, intertwined with live music & storytelling on stage, hosted by Sam Lee & featuring guest artists Caoimhín O Raghallaigh & Fiston Lusambo.

SWN is aiming to raise awareness of the fast-declining population of nightingales in the UK, in the face of decreasing habitats. The number of birds visiting England has fallen by 91% in the last 40 years, with only 5500 pairs remaining, mainly in the South East. SWN: LIVE is an increasingly rare opportunity for wider audiences far from the nesting sites to hear the birds sing, and us supported by Arts Council England.

Turn left at the roundabout on to Chapelfield Road, then keep going (past the Chapelfield shopping mall), until you reach the next roundabout. At this point the Roman Catholic Cathedral will be on your left. Go straight over this roundabout, underneath a pedestrian bridge and take the right hand lane for the traffic lights. Turn right onto St. Benedicts Street. This part of St. Benedicts is one-way, and you will fork left on to St. Swithins Road. From here, there are various car parks nearby or on-street parking (metered) on St. Benedicts Street (15p for 15mins, or free after 6pm) - please note there are limited places and some parts of St. Benedicts are permit parking only.
