Sight, Memory, Making, and Prayer EXHIBITION

Sight, Memory, Making, and Prayer EXHIBITION

An exhibition connecting the precision WWII bombsight work of the U.S. based at Horham Airfield with the focus of devotion through prayer, featuring ‘viewfinder’ imagery in paintings around a giant floor collage as a landscape of memory.

Sight, Memory, Making, and Prayer
a solo exhibition by Pamela Hardesty, will feature a series of canvas works as ‘viewfinders’ toward prayer, inspired by the Norden bombsight views her father calibrated in WWII at nearby Horham Airfield of the US Airforce. These paintings highlight ideas of precision search as exemplified by the bombsight, using collage and stitch in symbolic and complex layerings of images toward devotion.

Her paintings will be arranged in a sequence around the centerpiece of this exhibition: a huge canvas floor work presented as an aerial view over a fragment of the field of human experience. Inspired by the memorial floor slabs in Norwich Cathedral, this pattern of blocks more specifically references Horham, and the work of Pamela’s father, through shadowy photography and drawing as a kind of landscape of memory.

Pamela Hardesty is a Lecturer in Fine and Applied Art at the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork, Ireland, since 1990, and a visual artist with an international exhibition practice and public commissions throughout Ireland. She also publishes and lectures on issues of art and faith, and on the culture of making.
