Britten Sinfonia and Alison Balsom join forces for a very special programme of music exploring more than 300 years of composition. Ancient and contemporary influences are intertwined, with arrangements of Purcell by some of the greatest composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, including the world premiere of John Woolrich’s Hark! The echoing air, a new trumpet concerto inspired by Purcell’s The Fairy-Queen.

Alison Balsom is one of classical music’s most persuasive and engaging ambassadors, as well as a passionate advocate for her instrument, involved in transcribing, arranging and commissioning new trumpet works. She is acclaimed as one of the most ground-breaking musicians on the international circuit today, winning numerous awards including three classical BRITs and Gramophone Artist of the Year.

‘Britten Sinfonia produced one of those performances in which you could hardly breathe for risk of missing a nuance of expression.’ The Times

‘There are few more thrilling things in British music than Britten Sinfonia on top form.’ Ivan Hewett, The Daily Telegraph
