Many of the most beautiful parts of the Broads can only be seen by boat, and Canadian canoes are a great way to discover the delights of this fragile wetland. The Broads has so much beauty to offer, including smaller waterways which are havens for wildlife and perfect for exploring by canoe. Canoeing allows exploration of all but the smallest of the waterways of the Broads - it's ideal for exploring the headwaters (less tidal waters). We don't recommend canoeing in the lower reaches. If you do, you need to be extremely experienced, fit and able. Canoeing is also silent, so you'll be able to get closer to the wildlife, including water voles, great crested grebes and - if you're lucky - otters. Hire centres will be able to advise you on safety and on a suitable route. Canoeing in the Broads is suitable for all the family, including young children. Canadian canoes usually carry up to three adults but you are advised to check with the operator. Price includes buoyancy aids and waterproof rucksacks.
Most centres are open from Easter/April - October; for other periods please enquire at centres.
Some centres also offer canoe camping. Campers bring their own equipment and the centres provide a map of rough camping sites. Bank Dayboats and Martham Boats also offer single-seated kayaks, and Bank Dayboats offers guided canoe trips most evenings (bookings in advance). Please enquire for all details.
