Details
Hugh and Emma Asher took over The Beechwood in 2015 and have already put their mark on this popular ivy-clad hotel near the Norfolk Broads. Bedrooms have been brightened up and the bar and guest sitting room and Restaurant are now in a delightful Art deco style. Plans are in hand for further bedrooms. The friendly informal atmosphere, 18 comfortable bedrooms, fabulous food from a creative Head Chef, a nearby Heritage coastline, a Royal Country Retreat and the Norfolk Broads close by, is the Beechwood recipe for a great short break!
Agatha Christie was a regular visitor to The Beechwood when it was a private house, from the 1930s until the 1960s and several of her letters are on display at the hotel.
Bedrooms come with giant beds, Vi-sprung mattresses, squashy pillows and fluffy bathrobes. Some have French windows opening onto the peaceful garden and outside seating areas. Others are four-posters with Victorian-style bathrooms featuring Mae West style slipper baths.
The AA two-rosette restaurant is the hub of the hotel. Cuisine is modern British with a Mediterranean influence. Head Chef Steven Norgate prepares a ten-mile dinner, celebrating local ingredients, sourced, where possible, within about ten miles of the hotel. This may include Sheringham lobster, Cromer crab, Aylsham lamb and Swannington beef in season. Do leave room for dessert – the sticky toffee pudding is to die for!
Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award 2019 for Romance and Customer Service, and the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for 5 years running in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
