Glorious Memories of the Golden Mile - Heritage Guided Walk

Join our new seafront walk, set between the two piers as we recount the fascinating story of life in the famous seaside resort Great Yarmouth over the past 250 years.

Starting at the Wellington Pier your walking tour will travel past many different buildings with stories about their famous visitors and residents.

The healing salt waters enticed many visitors to the seaside in the mid 1750’s when it became all the rage to take the waters at the Bath House. Discover the former jetty from where Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson embarked and alighted from several of his famous voyages into battle. Nearby, Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield in the Royal Hotel. King Edward VII, then Prince of Wales was a frequent visitor to the seafront, staying at Shadingfield Lodge while entertaining singer Lily Langtry.

Find out how war changed the face of the seafront, how it survived the First World War, and how it almost failed to survive the Second.

The walk concludes at the Britannia Pier, destroyed by fire no less than four times, and once cut in two by a ship in a storm.
