February Half Term in Norfolk

Discover Outdoor Norfolk

Explore Norfolk's great outdoors during February half term and get out and about with the whole family. Ditch the car and take the Bittern or Wherry Line out to the coast from Norwich, or jump on and off the Coasthopper bus from Cromer to King's Lynn with a rover ticket.

Winter swan feeds at WWT Welney

Get close to nature


See the WWT Welney daily swan feeds and night-time floodlit feeds, and experience thousands of Whooper and Bewick's swans, ducks and other waterbirds gathered on the Ouse Washes to over-winter.

Watch them being fed, from the centrally heated observatory at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Welney, daily until March 11th for the daily feeds, and Thurs - Sun till Feb 26th for the evening floodlit feeds.

 
Enjoy snowdrop walks in Norfolk

Snowdrop walks


Enjoy fabulous snowdrop displays in Walsingham Abbey Grounds open daily from 10am to 4pm from 2nd February. Contact the Estate Office tel. 01328 820259 to check when the snowdrops are at their best for the Snowdrop Walks.

Other snowdrop events include the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) walks at Lexham Hall, Bagthorpe Hall, and Horstead House.

Bure Valley Railway

Take a heritage railway trip

Go for a ride on the narrow gauge Bure Valley Railway on their special Teddy Bear Express, daily February 11-19, a nine-mile journey from Aylsham to Wroxham and the Broads. Or try the full gauge steam experience on the North Norfolk Railway, ‘The Poppy Line', from Sheringham to Holt.

Discover cultures at an exhibition


Visit the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Norwich and see the JAPAN: Kingdom of Characters exhibition (4 Feb - 24 Jun) - the only opportunity to see this major exhibition in the UK, celebrating the growing interest in Japanese subcultures such as manga and anime.

 

This vibrant exhibition offers the chance to encounter characters from television, computer games and comics. Many have become much loved household names around the world, and the exhibition will also give fans the chance to come face-to-face with some of their favourite characters, including human-sized Ultraman, Pikachu and a Hello Kitty ‘skipping' through the gallery.

BeWILDerwood

Fun for the kids


See the Boggles and Twiggles at BeWILDerwood, the curious treehouse adventure park, warm your tootsies around the Boggle Wish Bonfire and go on the Wild Wish List Trail to hunt out the curious creatures and find out who wished which wish (February 11 to 19).

Feed the animals at Junior Farm Wroxham Barns, open daily 10am to 4pm from Saturday, February 11, and have fun on the championship mini adventure golf course.

Rapunzel at Norwich Puppet Theatre

Half term shows for kids!

Let your hair down with Rapunzel at the Norwich Puppet Theatre (Thu 16 Feb) - narrated by a wonderful frog, this fun adaptation has all the elements of a traditional tale... the witch, the beautiful girl locked in a tower and, of course, the handsome Prince who attempts to save Rapunzel.

Also at the Puppet Theatre are Children's Puppet Workshop - Knights and Princesses (Fri 17 Feb) and Pre-Schoolers Workshop (Thu 16 Feb).

Tiger at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens

Something completely different!


Take the Tiger Tree Walk at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens, near Great Yarmouth, open daily 10am to 5pm.

The special walk is constructed in the trees surrounding the tigers' enclosure and provides the opportunity for an excellent birds' eye view on these impressive creatures - not for the faint of heart!
