About to celebrate its 250th Anniversary, Norwich Theatre Royal is East Anglia’s premier theatre. It is proud to stage countless excellent productions, from ballet to opera, comedy to musical, appealing to many different audiences. Currently undergoing a £10 million refurbishment, it will be more accessible to all with improved facilities when completed so come and have a look while you’re here and see what’s on. |
| Norwich Playhouse | With a completely different feel to Norwich’s other theatres, Norwich Playhouse hosts a terrific mix of comedy, drama, music and art. Previous artists have included Eddie Izzard and Al Murray, while it also features National touring companies and celebrity nights with famous faces such as Germaine Greer. Pop along for a drink in the unique bar set in the style of a New York café which serves real ale and organic wine. |
| Maddermarket Theatre | Housed in a 18th Century former Catholic Church the Maddermarket Theatre has been entertaining audiences since the 1920s. A great range of shows are performed from much-loved classics to brand new productions written by upcoming talents. This old building is also said to be haunted so keep a look out! |
| Cinema | If you love watching films then visit one of Norwich’s four cinemas. Perhaps pop along to see a movie after you’ve finished your shopping with multi-screen cinemas at the Castle Mall, the Riverside complex and Anglia Square. The most unique place to take in a film has to be Cinema City, one of Norwich’s oldest and best-loved art house cinemas. Filmgoers are offered a very different experience with a variety of new, classic and foreign movies showing. |
| Bowling | For some family fun enjoy ten-pin bowling at Hollywood Bowl. Perfect for children with ramps, bumpers and lightweight balls available plus night bowling to make things that bit more interesting! There is also a games area, a café serving light meals and snacks and bar where you can sit and relax afterwards. |
| Bars and Clubs | If you really like to party then Norwich is definitely for you. There are numerous bars and clubs open late into the night (or early morning!). At the Riverside you will find a selection of great bars including Norwegian Blue along with several nightclubs so there is sure to be somewhere to dance the night away. Tombland is home to some stylish bars where you can relax with friends, while there are some lovely homely pubs and bars mingled amongst the shops such as the Belgian Monk where you sample some unusual fruity lagers! |
