And the winner is... find out at the Fourth Annual EDP Tourism in Norfolk Awards, presented by Carole Bundock from Look East on Friday 21 November at the Holiday Inn Norwich North, adjacent to Norwich International Airport.

These awards are a superb showcase of the quality and excellence that the Norfolk tourism industry offers. Nominations were invited in the summer and now shortlisting is underway, giving nominees excellent opportunities to highlight their successes and good practice.

Norfolk Tourism Annual Review Meeting
Tourism is a £2.3 billion industry in Norfolk supporting some 40,000 jobs. Join us at Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel on Thursday 6 November for an update on this vital industry and find out what the Norfolk Tourism Team has been doing to support your business.

Norfolk Tourism enhances and adds value to the work of partners to promote the county as a major visitor destination. This dynamic tourism partnership brings together 55 private and public sector organisations that represent a total of 4200 businesses throughout the county.

Here are some of the highlights of our work over the past 12 months:

  • Delivery of the travel trade campaign including distribution of 7,000 travel trade manuals to our trade database and via exhibitions which we attended, commissioning of travel trade research.


  • Delivery of PR and awareness programme including hosting three 2-day themed press trips, facilitating some 20 individual journalists trips, 26 press releases, 15 radio and TV interviews. All of these activities generated an estimated £500,000 advertising value equivalent.


  • A Norfolk presence at 9 targeted UK consumer and trade exhibitions, including the British travel Trade fair, Excursions, The Outdoor Show and British Birdwatching Fair.


  • Continuing development of www.visitnorfolk.co.uk to firmly establish the website as Google’s No 1 ranking in 20 key categories (including Norfolk, Norfolk B&B, Norfolk Hotels, Norfolk Self Catering and more).


  • Development of a new Tourism strategy for Norfolk Integration of the Norwich & Norfolk Conference Bureau with Norfolk Tourism
Looking forward to 2008/09
Looking forward to 2008/09 our work will include:

  • Continuing development and co-ordination of Norfolk wide marketing campaigns


  • A bigger (and better) Travel Trade manual


  • Development of a countywide tourism strategy for leisure & business tourism


  • Implementation of a targeted trade and consumer exhibition programme

  • Launch of Norfolk Tourism Quality Training website which will act as a signpost site to the valuable training opportunities provided for the industry.


  • Further development of www.visitnorfolk.co.uk including SEO work, Rural Pages, streamlining of menus and navigation, new features on responsible tourism and disabled tourism, plus accessibility and mobile phone browser compatibility work.
