For a different way to explore the gorgeous Norfolk countryside and unique towns take a trip on one of our fantastic railways. Mid-Norfolk Railway is East Anglia’s longest heritage railway and runs between the market towns of Wymondham and Dereham. During certain times of the year there is a steam locomotive running, while there are also a number of special events such as themed weekends and during the winter months children can meet Father Christmas onboard the train. For a combined experience that will unite a passion for gardens and steam, visit Bressingham. Here you will find an amazing collection of steam and stacks of information to answer all the questions you ever had – how do they work, who invented steam, what happened to the steam train, and so much more! There are also magnificent gardens to enjoy, a garden centre and a Dad’s Army exhibition. No trip to Norfolk would be complete without a journey on the Bure Valley Railway. Running through the heart of the Norfolk Broads, the narrow gauge railway begins at Aylsham and journeys through the countryside to Wroxham, the capital of The Norfolk Broads. Running alongside the track is a walk and cycle track so for the keen walker or cyclist you can walk or cycle one-way and then take a leisurely ride back on the train to the start. |
| Take to the Water | One of Norfolk’s most famous attractions has to be the incredible Norfolk Broads – and these must not be missed! Take a tour of The Broads and around Norwich with City Boats and journey into the peaceful landscape to discover why both locals and the many visitors who come here adore the area. Or perhaps you’d like to do the exploration yourself and crew your own vessel! Electric and diesel powered boats can be hired from City Boats for a couple hours or a whole day. For a more comfortable cruiser (if you’d like to stay with us for a bit longer) Broads Tours has an excellent range to choose from whatever size your crew, while they also offer river trips with full commentary on board one of their fleet which includes the ‘Belle of the Broads’. Enjoy a tour on one of The Broads while also doing your bit for the environment with a Broads Authority trip. The Electric Eel, an Edwardian electric launch takes visitor around the beautiful How Hill nature reserve, while a peaceful trip can be taken on Barton Broad on the solar-powered Ra. |
