With acres of magical forest there are some great ways to explore these at some of Norfolk attractions. New for 2007, you will find the woods near Hoveton in the Norfolk Broads have been taken over by some curious creatures who have built their tree house homes there. Come and experience a wonderful adventure as you tackle the Muddle Maze, tiptoe along the wobbly zip wires and meet the woodland’s new residents. Great fun for all ages, Bewilderwood is sure to be a huge hit for the whole family. For slightly older children and adults visit Go Ape, an award-winning high wire course set in amongst the ancient woodland of Thetford Forest. With rope bridges, Tarzan swings and 40 foot zip slides this is sure to get the adrenalin rushing and test your nerve! |
| Norfolk by Rail | What could be better on a summer’s day than riding through the open countryside aboard a steam train? All around the county are wonderfully restored railway journeys and visitors to Norfolk can experience the joy of riding on a steam train. The North Norfolk Railway, or Poppy Line, journeys through an area of outstanding natural beauty stopping off at some of the lovely coastal resorts including Sheringham and Weybourne, while also taking you to Sheringham Park and Kelling Heath, both excellent places to stop off for a picnic on a lovely sunny day! A trip on the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway offers a unique way to visit another of Norfolk’s coastal gems. The Railway is the longest 10¼” narrow gauge steam railway in the world and travels from Wells-next-the-Sea to the ancient pilgrimage village of Walsingham through the natural beauty of Norfolk. Experience the fun of the miniature railway at Barton House Railway in Wroxham. Visitors can ride on the steam and electric trains for just 30p! |
| Get Active | A fantastic way to really enjoy the outdoors is on a bicycle. These can be hired from Broadland Cycle Hire for either a few hours or a whole week. There are numerous routes to choose from – and you can visit some of Norfolk’s great attractions on your journey. Bicycles can also be hired from Bircham Windmill, which offers bikes for all sizes and abilities along with maps of the area, while High Lodge in Thetford Forest, and Blickling Hall also offer bike hire. Just a short ride away is the town of Wroxham, the home of many boat hire places and Broads Tours who offer river cruises along Norfolk’s unique waterways. |
| Small but Perfectly Formed! | | See the sun shine over the tiny but beautiful Merrivale Model Village at Great Yarmouth. Set in pretty landscaped gardens right on the seafront this is an excellent place to visit on a bright day. Look out for the tiny residents and see what they’re getting up to around the village then visit the Penny Museum before enjoying a rest and refreshing drink in the tea room. |
