Norfolk is proud of its heritage and you won’t need to travel far too find one of our special buildings. In Norwich, Dragon Hall, a medieval merchant’s hall is definitely worth a visit. Look out for the beautifully carved dragon – from where the hall’s name derives! Venture into the countryside and you will discover some fantastic National Trust properties including Blickling Hall, a Jacobean house surrounded by gardens and parkland, and Felbrigg Hall with its incredible library. You may also spot one of our windmills such as Bircham or Stow Windmill dominating the skyline. Open to the public a visit to a working windmill will be a great experience for the whole family. There are also various English Heritage properties to visit such as Grimes Graves, where you can step back in time to find out what life was like for our Stone Age ancestors, or visit the new Eceni study centre (opens Easter 2010) to experience how the Iceni lived. Or visit some stunning houses including Houghton Hall with its 5-acre walled garden and parkland with its unusual herd of white deer and Holkham Hall.
And don't forget the annual Heritage Open Days - your chance to sneak a peek inside hundreds of buildings usually closed to the public or who normally charge admission!
