Exhibition: East Anglian Silver 1565 - 1705 - A number of silver-related events and exhibitions will take place in Norwich to coincide with the Silver in East Anglia Symposium (details on page 2).

Prominent among these will be the exhibition in Norwich Cathedral Treasury, from 23rd September to 17th October 2004. Entitled 'East Anglian Silver 1565 -1705' this will be the first loan exhibition devoted to silver made in East Anglia since 1966 and will bring together a wealth of important objects, both secular and ecclesiastical, from museums and private collections in Britain and America.

Highlights include cups, porringers and a stunning flagon bearing the mark of Elizabeth Haslewood, widow of Norwich silversmith Arthur Haslewood, who continued her husband's business after his death in 1684.

Also on display will be objects made in other parts of the region including the Waveney Valley, Great Yarmouth and King's Lynn.

A fully illustrated catalogue will be available at the exhibition.

Great Yarmouth Film Festival - The glitz and glamour of the silver screen will be coming to the golden resort of Great Yarmouth. This film festival-by-the-sea will provide a feast of film screenings, star appearances, premieres, special events, many of which will be held in Great Yarmouth’s magnificent 19th century theatres.

As the centrepiece of the first Great Yarmouth Film Festival, we are celebrating the career of the legendary, double Oscar-winning cinematographer Jack Cardiff O.B.E. Jack Cardiff was born in Great Yarmouth in 1914 and we are delighted to welcome him back to his home town for the Festival. Jack, who is giving a special cinematography master class on the opening evening of the festival, will be presented with an award by another famous Norfolk son, Stephen Fry, to recognise his contribution to the world of cinema.

As well as the Cardiff classics “A Matter of Life and Death” and “The Red Shoes”, the Festival will feature previews and premieres including the regional preview of “Man on Fire” starring Denzel Washington and the first back-to-back screening of the Matrix Trilogy in the UK plus the screening of The Lord of the Rings trilogy back-to-back. The film programme includes a wide range of classic features, cult TV and movies, Hollywood blockbusters, documentaries as well as local heritage films, which have been specially compiled for the festival by the East Anglian Film Archive. For those with nerves of steel, there is a Fright Night, when five hair-raising horror films will be shown through the small hours.

In addition to film screenings, there will be a whole host of special events, workshops and other entertainment. A Film, TV & Toy Collector’s Fair will held at the Marina Centre, which will feature memorabilia, stars and cars from the films including James Bond’s Aston Martin, a Dalek and the Batmobile. Information on table bookings is available from Trevor Wicks on 01603 621903.

The cult TV series “Dad’s Army” has very strong links with the region and to celebrate this there will be a special Dad’s Army Night. There will be 1940’s themed entertainment and two of the episodes filmed in Great Yarmouth will be screened. It is hoped that several members of the surviving cast will attend.

The Festival weekend will be packed with entertainment. The Atlantis Arena is hosting a Rocky Horror Party Night with singers and dancers and there will be the chance to rock to the sounds of Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry and other rock’n’roll legends at the tribute show C’Mon Everybody in the Britannia Pier Theatre.

For the kids, there is the fun, fascinating, hands-on Animation Workshop. It is also hoped that Chris Rankin, who plays Percy Weasley, will attend the screening of Prisoner of Askeban and share his experience of working on the Harry Potter films.

There are also two industry strands to the Festival. The Archive Conference will focus on film and television archives, looking not only at the preservation of archive resources but also how they can be used to develop new work. A special feature of the event is the Screenwriting Festival, a weekend for both budding and established screenwriters. Workshops will be led by established writing experts in the fields of TV and Film.

Horses at Deepdale - Only available to those staying in one of our hostels or campsite!

We felt we should try this as so many people have asked, if it works then we will offer it out of season every year. This time we are purely offering it from October to December 2004 so we can assess the state of the paddocks and see if it seems to work.

The area we can offer is our North Glebe paddock which we use for camping at the peak times of the year. There is no fencing provided, so you would need to bring your own electric fencing, however there is easy access to water and a muck trailer. We ask anyone using the paddock to clear up after their horses and leave the field as they found it. We've marked six areas with telegraph poles for use, which are approximately 20m x 20m. Please note whilst your horses are on site they are the owners responsibility and must be insured.

If you are keen to bring horses, then please contact us to arrange dates and your other accommodation.

El Avaro - Tabola Rassa presents?El Avaro by Moliere [The Miser]?The theatre of objects takes a different look at the world that surrounds us. It is an invitation to perceive in each object the traces of the humanity that has engendered it. The protagonists of this visionary comedy are taps, pipes and hoses. Two actors manipulate these objects and give life to twelve characters, offering an atypical and amusing version of this great classic. ??For ages : 7+

Shadows Of Found - An experience of light and shadow, full and empty, dualities in movement, where changes take place. The shadow is ephemeral, changeable and evocative. We are interested in the shadows from abandoned objects. Our work consists of picking up daily objects, which can be found in rubbish bins, objects that we expose to light in order to explore their shape, transparency, opacity, hardness, flexibility, colour and lack of colour. All this without words, because music is our language. ??Tickets for this performance are £9??For ages : Adults Dates & Times: 22/10/2005 19:30 Norwich Puppet Theatre

Bonecos de Santo Aleixo - Concerning the materials used, the most important is the place where the performance takes place, which is called "retábulo". It is built in wood and flowery tissue and replaces the traditional stage. It's a kind of miniature with a stage curtain, a stage set painted on cardboard and it has got its own lighting. The puppets are made of wood and cork and are dressed in such a way that the characters can immediately be identified just as in a naturalist theatre. EDUCATING RITA - A comedy by Willy Russell A much loved classic comedy updated by Russell in 2002 Frank is a tutor of English in his fifties whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to seek refuge in bottles of whiskey he hides on his bookshelves. Rita is a forthright, twenty-six-year-old hairdresser who is hungry to “know everything”. With Frank as her tutor Rita embarks on an Open University course and her education process begins. The effects are both amusing and serious as her fresh, intuitive approach becomes clouded and stifled as she grapples with the problem of a formal education geared to the passing of exams. Remember the 1983 award winning film starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters? Come and enjoy this updated version of this popular play. Sheringham Little Theatre Contact: Box Office

DAMES AT SEA - A musical comedy. Book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller. Music by Jim Wise Presented by arrangement with Samuel French Ltd
One of the hottest, toe-tappingest musicals ever ... more fun than you can imagine!
A long-run-off-Broadway musical based on the campy nostalgia of the Hollywood musicals of the ‘30s. The scene is Big Time New York. Enter a sweet girl from a far away hometown, who has come to make it big on Broadway. Who should she chance to meet but the hometown boy, now a sailor, who has ambitions of becoming a songwriter. When the boat of true love is rocked, in true Hollywood fashion the song-writer sailor saves the show with a smash tune.
