Holiday, touring and camping parks are graded under the British Graded Holiday Parks Scheme operated by the Tourist Boards of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This scheme assesses the quality, not quantity, of facilities available on the park. The scheme is carried out independently by the tourist boards, who employ specially trained and experienced inspectors. These inspectors undertake a detailed examination of the park's facilities assessing areas such as cleanliness, layout and décor.
Everyone will want different things from their holiday. Some will prefer the peace and quiet of a small rural park, whilst others will want a lively, all-action park complete with swimming pool, restaurant and disco. But what both parties will have in common is the desire for the park to be well managed and well maintained. Through grading by quality and not quantity, all types of parks can be compared and can be awarded top marks if they reach a standard of excellence in their specified areas.
