City heritage, culture and shopping

Norwich is one of the top day trip destinations in the UK – and there are many good reasons why!

If it's heritage you're after, then look no further than the Norman cathedral and castle, both in the heart of the city and dominating the skyline. The cathedral, one of our Seven Wonders of Norfolk, is a haven of calm, and there are many things to see inside and out. The castle, which was built as a Royal Palace 900 years ago on the order of William the Conqueror, now hosts a fabulous museum and art collection and you can see the dungeons and battlements – as well as the death masks from when it was a prison. The cathedral and castle take group visits.

Culture in Norwich includes the Theatre Royal, the Playhouse and the Puppet Theatre, plus the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, which has an impressive standing collection as well as attracting world class art, such as 2015's Francis Bacon and the Masters.

The city is also a shopper's paradise, with two shopping centres and four department stores, many independent stores and boutiques in the quaint Lanes and Timber Hill. Rated in the Top 10 UK shopping destinations, you'll soon realise why.

But that's just the tip of it… Norwich has many more attractions besides these.
