Economic Impact of Tourism

Research by East of England Tourism estimates that in 2009 there were 4,092,000 staying visitors in Norfolk. The total number of day visitors was estimated at 26,734,000.

The research estimates that 37,177 full time jobs, and 49,652 tourism related jobs in total, are directly supported by tourism in Norfolk and that tourism accounts for 14% of employment in Norfolk. The total business turnover supported by tourism is £2,581,981,750.

'Visit Norfolk - Closer than you think to London' 2012 Tourism Business Toolkit

Norfolk Tourism has published a 2012 Tourism Business Toolkit aimed at helping the county's tourism industry to capitalise on the 2012 Games. Sponsored by Norfolk County Council with the key message, ‘Visit Norfolk - Closer than you think to London', the toolkit includes fact sheets with key information about London 2012, key marketing messages and suggestions to help businesses prepare for the Games.

Population

The 2001 estimate shows that the population of Norfolk increased by 13.5 per cent to 798,000 between 1981 and 2001. This compared with an 11.1 per cent rise in the East of England and a 5.0 per cent rise in England.

In 2001 there was a larger percentage of people of pension age in Norfolk than in the East of England as a whole.

Between 1991 and 2001 the percentage of people from non-white ethnic origin increased from 0.9 to 1.5 per cent in Norfolk.

Climate

Climate change in Norfolk is a big issue and the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia are ideally placed to investigate the potential impact of global warming and other issues on our county.

The Norfolk Coast Partnership was set up in 1991 to ensure and promote the sustainable use of the Norfolk coastline.

 

Tourism in Norfolk Strategy

The Tourism in Norfolk Strategy is a tourism strategy document for Norfolk County which highlights the importance of tourism to the Norfolk Economy and which defines for all regional, sub regional and local partners the tourism priorities for investment.
