Great gastro-pubsThe Flying Kiwi Chris Coubrough tells us why the gastro-pubs here in Norfolk are amongst the best in the country.
Norfolk is my chosen place. I have lived and worked in 5 of the 6 continents of the world, and given the world to choose from, Norfolk is the place for me. Pretty much all of that work was done in pubs, bars and restaurants. So I have gained a great insight into what it takes to make a great pub.
The Norfolk gastro pub is now thriving, having spent years in darkness before a great big bloke called Paul Whittome set a new benchmark with the now-famous Hoste Arms in Burnham Market. Many have followed in his footsteps of which I am one.
For me it's always simple: Great Food, Great Drink and Great Service. But don't settle for one when there are so many to choose from, be like me and explore the great pubs of the county and find your favorites. I have mine; for 'Sunday lunch' it's the Jolly Farmer at South Creake, my favorite 'lunch in the city' has to be The Last Wine Bar, my favorite 'lost in the countryside with my wife' is The Walpole Arms in Itteringham and my favourite 'too far from home' pub would be The Swan at Ingham.
Our county has become a hotspot for food lovers with so many great pubs out there just waiting to be discovered. At the heart of each of them you will find hard working individuals who are multi skilled, multi-tasking and passionate about what they do. Their only aim is to spend every day trying to give you the best of Norfolk in a glass, on a plate and in a welcome.
