Just south of Norwich lies the historic market town of Wymondham. The town has survived religious unrest and been devastated by fire and was the setting for the historically important Kett's Rebellion. Today it is a great place to visit with its 900 year old Abbey and picturesque riverside walks.

A good place to start your visit to Wymondham is the Tourist Information Centre. Not only can you get plenty of information on what to see and do, it is housed in one of Wymondham's most famous buildings, the Market Cross, built in the early 17th Century.
Just a short walk from the town centre is Wymondham Abbey and its impressive towers dominate the lush meadows. Founded in 1107 the Abbey is simply stunning with its hammer-beam roof carved with 200 angels and the 18th Century organ with Chippendale case. For a taste of Wymondham's history visit the Wymondham Heritage Museum. Housed in the former Bridewell, the building itself has had an interesting past - from being a prison, women's house of correction, a police station and finally a Magistrates Court! For some family fun, Wymondham has some great things to do. Ride the Mid-Norfolk Railway to Dereham, another delightful market town or get up some speed go-karting. For little ones, spend some time at the indoor play area with bouncy castle and mega ball pit.

You are certain to find some tasty morsels in this historic town. Choose to dine in a 15th Century Inn or experience the tastes of the world that are on offer with Indian, Chinese, Italian and even Moroccan all on the menu. For a 'Brief Encounter' experience, visit Wymondham's historic railway station for afternoon tea in the unique themed restaurant and tea rooms.

Every Friday Wymondham holds its weekly market. The town becomes alive with great stalls selling local goods and general household items, so forget the high street and shopping malls and instead enjoy a different shopping experience. For delicious Norfolk foods visit Wymondham on the third Saturday for every month for the Wymondham Farmer's Market, where farmers and local producers meet to offer you some mouth-watering treats - from real apple juice to Norfolk bangers. Wymondham has some interesting shops to explore too, including Samphire - an independent shop selling tasty locally produced food and goods.

Wymondham has a lively community spirit and there are always events happening. Wymondham's annual Music Festival has a huge range of music on offer - evening concerts, daytime recitals, gigs and workshops. Live music can be found in the Market Place and lots of venues around the town during the Festival period.

With so much on offer in and around Wymondham, make the most of your Norfolk holiday by staying in this historic and charming market town. Whether in a Bed and Breakfast in Wymondham or charming holiday cottage, there'll be something just right for you.
