Just south of Norwich lies the historic market town of Wymondham. The town has survived religious unrest and been devastated by fire and was the setting for the historically important Kett's Rebellion. Today it is a great place to visit with its 900 year old Abbey and picturesque riverside walks.

Things to Do in Wymondham

A good place to start your visit to Wymondham is the Tourist Information Centre. Not only can you get plenty of information on what to see and do, it is housed in one of Wymondham's most famous buildings, the Market Cross, built in the early 17th Century.

Just a short walk from the town centre is Wymondham Abbey and its impressive towers dominate the lush meadows. Founded in 1107 the Abbey is simply stunning with its hammer-beam roof carved with 200 angels and the 18th Century organ with Chippendale case. For a taste of Wymondham's history visit the Wymondham Heritage Museum. Housed in the former Bridewell, the building itself has had an interesting past - from being a prison, women's house of correction, a police station and finally a Magistrates Court!
