Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils joined forces for the return of the Tour of Britain cycle race on Saturday, September 17 2011. The race headed through Suffolk and Norfolk, before finishing with a London stage the following day.
Setting off from Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds, the race passed through Suffolk for around 60 miles, before travelling roughly the same distance in Norfolk - through Diss, Wymondham and Reepham before finishing on the Sandringham Estate.
The Norfolk and Suffolk stage of the Tour of Britain was chosen as the first of four 2011 ‘Tour Rides' on Sunday, July 24. Over 700 participants took part in the Mass Participation ride along the route, with their registration fees going to Prostate Cancer Charity.
The Norfolk and Suffolk stage was sponsored by Adnams. Public sector funding from Norfolk County Council, South Norfolk Council, Broadland District Council and the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk also supported the race and Mott Macdonald and May Gurney provided assistance in kind. Private sector funding came from Aquaterra Energy and in kind sponsorship from Event Guard.

Stage 7 of the Tour of Britain crossed Suffolk and Norfolk, and Norfolk's first glimpse of the riders was at Diss. The Tour then passed through South Norfolk, Broadland and through West Norfolk, finishing at the Sandringham Estate. The Tour then went to London for the final stage.
