Norfolk can boast coast, country, fen and forest walking, so with the exception of mountains, we can offer you pretty much everything here! Pull on your walking boots and get out to explore. If you're up to some long distance walking in Norfolk, try the ancient Peddars Way which links to the Norfolk Coast Path National Trail. With long distance walks from 9 to 93 miles you can choose a route which suits you best.

Norfolk gives you so many choices for boating and sailing. For a gentle pace, try out the tranquil Norfolk Broads where you've got 125 miles of lock-free navigable waterways with peaceful anchorages. Chug along at a slow steady pace taking in the scenery and stop off at welcoming pubs or pretty Norfolk villages along the way. Or climb aboard a wooden ferryboat from picturesque Blakeney harbour or Morston quay and slowly wind up the creek to see a colony of hundreds of seals basking in the sun.

Cycling in Norfolk gives you the freedom to explore. Pedal through narrow country lanes and woodland cycle routes, or along pretty coastal paths with the distant sea sparkling on the horizon. Pick up the Sustrans National Cycle Network or enjoy the peace and quiet of the Marriott's Way. Hop on the train and try one of nine cycle rides from the Bittern Line.

Norfolk is dubbed the birdwatching capital of Britain. There's plenty to see whatever the time of year - from Barn Owls to Kingfishers, Cetti's Warbler to Bearded Tits. Norfolk is birdwatchers' paradise and a wonderful place for children to begin to learn about their feathered friends. There's plenty of non-avian action too - if you're lucky you may see an otter, hear the 'plop' of a water vole as it dives in the water, or see the secretive Chinese Water Deer as it scurries away!

Norfolk offers plenty of fantastic angling opportunities. From day fishing spots on lakes, pits and rivers, to the Norfolk Broads or our fine Norfolk coastline, you are only ever a short cast away from brilliant fishing! The Norfolk Broads has over 200 miles of rivers and inland waterways stocked full of species such as pike, perch, chub, bream, roach and tench. You'll find some of the best rod and line fishing around so even the most inexperienced will soon get a bite.

With its expanses of flat open land, country roads, bridle routes, forests and heathland, Norfolk is a great area to enjoy horse riding.
Trotting along country lanes and bridle routes through forests and heathland you'll take in beautiful unspoilt countryside and you can ride for miles without another person in sight. Or experience the huge expansive beaches of the Norfolk coast and enjoy an exhilarating gallop along the deserted sand.

If you don't fancy anything too active, you can still explore Norfolk's outdoors in a more sedate manner, at one of the county's many gardens. From small wildlife friendly gardens, cottage and town gardens, to wonderfully relaxing water gardens and magnificent stately home gardens, there's something to explore for everyone.

Whilst you're here, why not really relax and leave your car behind.
